Frederik Leys was born in Ghent, Belgium
in 1975. He obtained his Master degree in Physics from the University of Ghent
in 1998. In the same year, he joined the Department of Solid State Physics at
the University of
Antwerp, where he enjoyed
the privilege to collaborate with Professor Norman March. His Ph.D. research focussed on relativistic density functional theory in the
local density approximation and linear response theory applied to liquid metals
and high temperature superconductors. In 2003, Frederik
Leys obtained his Ph.D. in Exact Sciences from the University of Antwerp.
In the same year, he joined the Epitaxy research
group of the Inter-University Micro Electronics Center (IMEC), where he works
under the scientific guidance of Dr Matty Caymax, one of the pioneers of chemical vapor deposition of
group-IV elements for advanced CMOS applications. His current research
interests include low-temperature epitaxy, Vapor
Phase Doping, hetero-epitaxy and alternative
precursors. In June 2008, Frederik Leys will take up
the position of advisor for the industrial valorisation
in Flanders of IMEC’s expertise in the field of
nanotechnology, biosensors and organic electronics.
